WAKULIMA DAIRY CARBON CREDIT PARTNERSHIP

The Wakulima Dairy Coop (WDC) is a Cooperative Company with over 8,000 members (small holder dairy producers). Farmers Helping Farmers has been involved with the development of this dairy cooperative over the past 10 years.

The carbon credit program will be run as follows.
ALL funds raised from the sale of carbon credits will be transferred to the WDC for use in greenhouse gas programs

Biogas Generators

• WDC sells biogas generators to individual families for 1/3 of the actual cost of the units (approximately Cdn $500)
• the family pays for their 1/3 of the cost through deductions from their milk sales over a number of years. These funds go back into the program to help pay for more biogas generators.
• the family is responsible for levelling the ground and building the fence around the biogas generator

Fuel Efficient Cookers

• institutions wanting fuel efficient cookers (approximately Cdn $1500) apply to WDC and as funds permit, these units are installed.
• institutions (eg schools) are not required to pay for these installations, but are responsible for preparing the site for the installation
• WDC will also sell smaller fuel efficient cookers to individual families who will be required to pay 1/3 of the actual cost of the units
• the family pays for their 1/3 of the cost through deductions from their milk sales over a number of years. These funds go back into the program to help pay for more cookers.
• the family is responsible for installation of the cooker
