Nutrition intern now FHF board member shares the impact of her time in Kenya

My name is Katie MacNeill and I had the privilege of being one of the nutrition interns working in Kenya with Farmers Helping Farmers (FHF) last May. Over the last few months of being back home, I have been able to reflect on my time spent in Kenya. I’ve gained a new passion because of the work I was able to do with FHF along with seeing firsthand the amazing work the organization has been doing for years.

Being back home has shown me just how lucky we are to have everything we do. I have such a deep appreciation for anyone who supports or works for FHF after seeing the impact they make on so many lives in Kenya.

The excitement the women express after receiving FHF training because many of them may have not even finished primary school, the smiles of all the children when they are lining up to eat lunch provided by FHF gardens and cook stoves or the stories told by the families of how receiving a water tank saved them hours every day which has allowed them to work enough to afford to put their children in school are just a few of the many reasons why traveling to Kenya as an intern has been nothing short of life-changing.

It is eye-opening to see how much of an impact people living in P.E.I. can have in a completely different country. The donations and support from Islanders is the reason so many people in Kenya are provided resources that allow them to live a better life than they did before receiving help from FHF.
