Celebrating International Development Week 2019 – Monday

To celebrate International Development Week 2019, Farmers Helping Farmers is celebrating the people who help make our projects in Kenya possible.

A pair of churches in the Kensington area of Prince Edward Island has embraced school twinning through Farmers Helping Farmers.

The Margate Pastoral Charge has been twinned with Nkando Primary since 2017. It’s the second twinning relationship for the Charge, which includes Southwest River United and Princetown United.  The churches had been twinned previously with Marinya-A-Ruibi Primary from 2010 to 2016.

In 2018, members of the Margate Charge raised an amazing $5,862.75 for Nkando Primary through a yearlong program of fundraisers!

School twinning in Margate involves both Sunday School members and church members, about 20 children and youth and 25 adults write letters. But there are more than 100 adults that help out with fundraisers.

The Margate Charge raises money by holding a popular community dinner that they sell tickets to attend. Most of the food and help is donated so almost all of the proceeds go to the twinned school.

They also hold a concert every year and all funds raised go to Nkando Primary.

There is also a Fun Run/Walk every fall.

One quote from a member of the congregation: "It makes us happy to see how we are helping children and their families have a better life."

And from the minister, Reverend Pix Butt: "I'm amazed that a little given by many can have such a huge impact on the lives of people who live a very different reality than we do. I see this kind of ministry as part of our call to walk with each other."

Asante to everyone at the Margate Pastoral Charge for your ongoing support of Farmers Helping Farmers and Nkando Primary.

Asante to Debbie Bernard for photos and text.
