I like to think of Kenya as my second home. There was an instant connection when I went there in 2015 as part of the 35th anniversary youth tour. The red soil and friendliness of Kenya felt a lot like P.E.I. The trip was an emotional one. We visited Kamuketha School where my friends, family and generous Islanders had raised money to build three classrooms in honour of my son Callum, who passed away in 2013. There were also spontaneous moments of joy, like this one. This is a group of students at Michaka Primary School who were eager to touch my blonde hair. I crouched down and was instantly surrounded. When they were finished, my hair was braided and we posed for this photo! I returned to Kenya in 2016 and hope to travel there again. Asante Kenya for bringing meaning to my life at a challenging time. I will always be grateful for that.
