August 12, 2017 – Farmers Helping Farmers (FHF) Barbeque, Harrington P.E.I.
Once again, we say thanks to all our Farmers Helping Farmers participants and donors. This year’s Barbeque was, once again, sold out. We began to wonder how many of the 700 or so who join us for such an excellent meal return each year, and how many are new?
Kulla and John Bennett and friends are "from away" but they come to P.E.I. and, for more than 10 years, have never missed the Barbeque.
It’s wonderful to see annual summer residents using the BBQ to link up with those living on P.E.I. Kulla meets up with a former Ontario classmate, Harold Robertson (with the beard), who comes to the BBQ annually from his year-round home in Mt. Buchanan ‘Down East’ on P.E.I.
It seems our politicians come regularly! Here’s the Honourable J. Alan McIssac, Member of the P.E.I. Legislative Assembly for Vernon River-Stratford. Also sighted at the BBQ as usual was Premier Wade MacLauchlan who is an enthusiastic participant!
We know that many people are drawn to the Barbeque with their own stories of Kenya. This year Kulla brought Florida friends Jean and Harry Brooke Baxter.
Their daughter Kathryn Brooke Baxter had a passion for East Africa and worked with a group of traditional birth attendants in the community of Lwala, in Western Kenya. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0q8fKCHXJ5g
