The annual Farmers Helping Farmers Fund Raising Barbecue returns for its 38th year on Saturday August 8, 2026 from 4:30 -6:00 pm at the North Shore Community Centre in West Covehead.
Run by volunteers, the event promises both a hearty meal made from 100% locally-sourced ingredients and an opportunity to support sustainable farming and education initiatives in Kenya. The menu will feature grilled to preference striploin steaks, fresh self-serve salad bar including specialty salads, new potatoes, tender yellow and green beans, and the ever-popular homemade strawberry shortcake for dessert.
Farmers Helping Farmers is a Prince Edward Island-based non-profit organization of globally minded people. The volunteer centered group raises funds for and manages projects that partner with Kenyan farm women and schools to produce nutritious food, increase food security, and improve the health of their families. Funds raised from the BBQ help support key projects such as:
• School gardening programs which provide nutritious daily meals for school children
• Installation of water tanks at farm women’s homes to collect rainwater and ensure reliable access to clean water
• Training for women’s groups in improved farming techniques and business practices
• Support for dairy farmers to increase milk production and income.

Farmers Helping Farmers has supported projects in Kenya for the past 46 years. Through hands-on collaboration and long-term partnerships with women's groups, dairies, and schools, Farmers Helping Farmers helps communities in Meru County, Kenya become more self-reliant and resilient, one farm and one family at a time.
“We are so grateful for the ongoing support from our PEI community,” said Teresa Mellish, Organization Coordinator. “This BBQ is a wonderful way to connect, enjoy a meal together, and be part of meaningful change around the world.”
