Recognizing Excellence in Volunteerism
Charlottetown- Farmers Helping Farmers held their Annual General Meeting
and Awards presentation recently at the Farm Centre in Charlottetown. Three
awards were presented to outstanding supporters of the organization.
“Farmers Helping Farmers is pleased to be able to recognize individuals and
organizations dedicated to supporting our important work in Kenya where we
partner with women's groups, schools and small scale farmers to improve
lives and communities," said Dr. Jill Wood, president of the organization. “We
are incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated and engaged volunteers and
supporters.”
Attendees were also treated to a keynote address from Associated Country
Women of the World president and Islander, Marie Kenny, who highlighted
the impactful projects her organization undertakes, and its parallels with the
work of Farmers Helping Farmers.
The Friend of Farmers Helping Farmers award was presented to Dannie
McKinnon. Danny and his family own and operate Sandy Rae Farm, a 7th
generation dairy farm just outside Montague, Prince Edward Island. Dannie
has warmly welcomed many visiting Kenyans to his dairy operation over the
last two decades, patiently demonstrating the Canadian way of dairy farming
and quickly becoming a favorite host among Kenyan visitors. For generously
opening his home and farm to support the work of FHF, Dannie McKinnon
was presented the 2026 Friend of Farmers Helping Farmers.
Honorary Life Membership- Amalgamated Dairies Limited (ADL) has been a
long time supporter of Farmers Helping Farmers’ steak BBQ fundraiser,
donating butter, cream and chocolate milk over many years of this important
event. Recognizing that ADL is regularly asked to support local endeavours,
FHF greatly appreciates their generosity year after year. For this unwavering
support of our organization and its consistent willingness to contribute to our
efforts, Honorary Life Membership was awarded to Amalgamated Dairies
Ltd.
The Farmers Helping Farmers Youth Award- The students of Souris Regional
